Welcome to my painting site. I prefer bold, splashy colors because I tend to be a quiet introvert, so I am attempting to be “different” with my painting. Also, I agree with Aristotle, who said: "The aim of art is not to represent the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance."
I paint mostly abstracts because of a condition that makes it difficult to paint the fine details with a small brush that realism, or representational art, often entails. Representational art can rely on responses to the familiar in our world. Rather, I want to “say something” to the reader through the paint alone — sometimes in a whisper, sometimes with a shout.
Another reason my works are mostly abstracts is because I want the paint itself – the color, consistency, value, shapes, etc. – to communicate viscerally to the viewer.
Painting usually is an act of discovery with me, i.e., I often don’t know what is going to happen when I pull out another blank canvas. I rarely plan out how a painting will look when completed. My favorite paintings come as surprises.
I use mostly acrylics because I like how the paint looks after it is dry, the flatness of the color. I love the various mediums I can use with acrylics. They can add another dimension — both literally and figuratively — to the work. I also try to give each canvas something to look at from afar, as well as some visual reward for getting up close to the work.
My mostly available art can be found by clicking on Works, above in the Menubar. You can also reach one of my Blogs (the other is at this link) up there or signup for my Occasional Newsletter, if you are interested in learning more about me or my art. Once you give me your email address -- which I will NEVER share or sell, I can email you once or twice monthly newsletters, which will lead you to deals, including free art. You really need to visit my other web gallery at this link to find more info on the deals.
